In August 2003 Mars was the closest to earth it had been for 60,000 years, I am sure you have seen the email that gets circulated every year approching August about how Mars will be as big as the moon and will never be this close again and so on, well it already happenen and it was in 2003 and of course was never the size of the moon. I was living in San Clemente CA at the time and I stayed up until 4:00am that night to get this shot. The mist coming in off the ocean made the shot look cool, nebula like. The date if I am remembering right was August, 26, 2003
